(2) to act as an information hub for those interested in bringing MB Movement Workshops to their own organizations (3) to offer a comprehensive page on upcoming events, including classes and performances by Maria Bauman.
Did you know that young people who participate in the arts are four times more likely to be recognized for academic achievement than their peers, three times more likely to win an award for school attendance, read for pleasure nearly twice as often as their peers, and participate in youth groups nearly four times as frequently (Dr. Shirley Brice Heath, Stanford University)? As a professional dancer who began dancing at a public arts high school, I know what a valuable outlet expressive movement is. It is our first language and the most equitable art—we each have an amazing body at our disposal! For these reasons, it is of paramount importance for me to augment my performance career with teaching. I want everyone to be comfortable in their own skin, and my classes offer students the opportunity to
- Appreciate their bodies
- Explore self-expression, marrying dance with other artistic disciplines
- Tackle creative challenges cooperatively
- Increase their physicality and technique
Happy surfing! When you’re done, though, don’t forget to get up, do some head and shoulder circles, wiggle your fingers, and stretch out those legs! Your body is amazing; indulge in its potential!
